How We Clean Soft Toys in Umm Garn

Check and Test

Illustrated soft toy cleaning process, from inspection and colour test through to drying

Seams, fixings and filling are checked, electronics found and dealt with, and the dye colour-tested on a hidden patch. Anything already loose or likely to stay stained is reported before cleaning starts.

Hand Wash and Sanitise

Plush toys being hand-washed in a sink of suds, with clean toys drying on the counter behind

Washed by hand at low temperature in sections, never in a drum, then sanitised through the filling to deal with dust mites and bacteria rather than just the smell.

Dry, Brush and Check

Four plush teddy bears dried and groomed, sitting upright with the fur brushed back up

Air-dried at room temperature until the core of the stuffing is dry, then brushed out along the fur so the pile stands up, and checked over once more before it is packed.

Umm Garn Soft Toy Questions

Everything you need to know about our footwear restoration process in Umm Garn.

Ostriches are priced by height. A chick that stands as tall as a water bottle is QAR 55, one reaching your waist QAR 70, and a giant taller than a child QAR 120. Umm Garn homes pay that for separate rinses of neck, legs and body, freshening, drying and fluffing, with the van free.

Neck and legs done separately.
Rates: our price list.

Ostriches stride home in 2 to 3 days. The skinny legs dry first, while the round fluffy body hangs upright in a cool room until its middle is ready. Heat would frizz the feather fluff, so it is never used. Expecting visitors? Tell us the date in the chat.

Hung upright to dry.
Return day in writing.

Yes, gentle on toddlers. The long neck takes a lot of tugging, so we check the seam where it joins the body, then test the beak, eyes and feet. The ostrich is sponged in tepid water using a mild sanitiser for textiles and hung until its body is dry right through.

No perfume.
Neck seam checked.

Almost never. Ostriches are rarely musical, though a few squeak in the body. A squeaker in a pocket is lifted out and returned once dry, and a stitched one is wrapped against water. If a toy looks too fragile to wash safely, we say so first.

Glued beaks tested.
Squeakers stay dry.

Yes, the neck should still bend and the legs stand straight. A drum would tangle them into a knot, so each part is rinsed on its own and the bird hangs while it dries. Once ready, the fluffy body is teased out and the legs straightened.

Floppy necks stay a little floppy.
Honest advice before washing.

Yes, a fluffy body traps a lot of dust. Sand blown in from the open land nearby sinks through the feathers into the padding, where dust mites settle. We work a textile sanitiser through the body and hang the ostrich until it is dry inside, so it is fresh again.

Good in windy months.
Pair it with linen from the Umm Garn page.

Booking takes one WhatsApp. Drop your Umm Garn villa location, the hour someone can answer the door and a snap of the ostrich standing up. The price and a 30 minute arrival window follow for any day, no app required.

4.6/5 Rating

"My daughter's bear has been slept with for four years and I was too scared to wash it. It came back clean and still soft, and she did not notice anything different about it, which was the whole point."

— Noura Al B.

"We do this every couple of months now because of my son's asthma. They clean the bedding and his two toys together and the difference in his mornings is obvious."

— Deepa R.

"Big unicorn plush, about a metre tall. Took three days because of the drying, which they told me upfront, and it came back fluffy instead of the flat mess I got from the washer last time."

— Tom H.

"They found a loose eye on one of the toys and told me instead of sending it back like that. Small thing, but with a toddler in the house it mattered."

— Mariam Y.

"We sent eleven toys from our nursery playroom. Collected on Sunday, back midweek, all labelled and counted correctly. The batch price was fair for the work."

— Sunita K.

"A singing elephant with the sound box sewn in. I assumed it was not washable. They cleaned around the unit and it still plays, so I was wrong."

— Wesam T.

"My mother's teddy from the sixties. They said in advance the faded patches would not improve and not to expect white, and that honesty is why I used them again."

— Iryna P.
