Living a short walk from the sand means a bag of towels, swimsuits and T-shirts most weeks. Six kilos are AED 60 and twelve kilos AED 99; every extra kilo is AED 12. The washing comes back dried and folded the following day, ready to go straight into drawers.

Shirts, blouses and tailored pieces are cleaned one by one and finished on a press. Shirts and blouses are AED 15, trousers AED 18, a normal dress AED 40 and a suit in two pieces AED 50. Expect them on hangers within 24 hours; book before noon for same-day dry cleaning.

If you wash at home and only dislike ironing, send clean clothes for pressing alone. Shirts on hangers cost AED 9, T-shirts on hangers AED 9, jeans or trousers AED 12 and dresses AED 25. Pressed pieces return to Soho Palm Jumeirah the next day, ready to wear.

Sheets are AED 18 each, pillow cases AED 7 and towels AED 6. Duvets cost AED 50 and need two days so the filling dries completely in the humidity. Bring your own beach towels too, at AED 6 each, so the next trip to West Beach starts with fresh ones.

Sand gets into every seam of a trainer, and salt marks leather. Trainers and formal shoes cost AED 55, sandals AED 45 and boots AED 85, with light restoration from AED 50. Shoes take two to four days, so plan around the pair you wear most.

Bags carried between the beach, the gym and the car pick up sun cream and grime. Standard handbags are AED 45, oversized handbags AED 55, backpacks AED 45 and gym bags AED 65. We clean them by hand and return them in three to five days.

Shorten a hem, take in a waist or taper a leg below the knee, each from AED 40; a full-leg taper is AED 50. Let us know if there is an event date and we will fit around it. Most alterations come back in two to three days.

Sea-facing flats get strong afternoon light and fine sand through the balcony door. We clean regular rugs at AED 20 per square metre and wool at AED 26. Curtains cost AED 20 per square metre without blackout and AED 25 with it. Both take three days.

For gowns from a wedding, an engagement shoot on the beach or a long time in storage. Prices start at AED 250 for plain gowns and AED 450 for beaded ones, AED 55 for a veil and AED 210 for a preservation box. It takes one to two weeks.

The West Beach strip hosts plenty of events, so this is for the organisers, not residents. Costumes are AED 200 small, AED 230 medium and AED 250 large, with AED 30 for each accessory. We clean, deodorise and dry the full suit, and return it in three to five days.

The building has a kids' play area, and the favourite toy goes everywhere with them. We clean small toys for AED 55, medium ones for AED 70 and large ones for AED 120, gently so they keep their shape. They return in two or three days.

Covers on the living-room sofa collect sand, sun cream and the odd drink. A regular cover is AED 35 and a large one AED 40, while cushion covers cost AED 10 small, AED 15 medium and AED 20 large. Allow two or three days before they are back.

A leather jacket or blazer worn on cooler evenings needs a specialist clean, not a normal wash. Jackets start at AED 150 and coats or blazers at AED 130. We clean, condition and check the lining, then return the piece to Soho Palm Jumeirah in three to five days.
