How We Clean Mascot Costumes in Qatar University
Inspect and Record
Every seam, glued joint and worn patch is checked and photographed first, so the costume's existing condition is on record before anything is cleaned.
Hand Clean and Sanitise
Body, head, gloves and feet are cleaned by hand in sections. The lining and head padding are sanitised and deodorised separately, because that is where the odour sits.
Air-Dry Flat and Check
Dried flat on racks at room temperature over a day or more, then checked for head fit and fur direction before packing. No heat, no tumbling, at any point.

Owls are back on their perch in 3 to 5 days. Layered felt feathers and a foam head take a while to dry on racks at room temperature, and a heater would curl the feathers. Send the date of your open day or society fair and we will schedule backwards from it.
- Semester calendar welcome.
- Allow a day more for heavy soiling.
Those huge round eyes are the delicate part. They are foam domes over mesh, so the head is cleaned with a damp sponge, never tumbled, and dried upright where nothing presses on it. We freshen the padding by itself and try the head on a dummy to check the wearer can still see.
- Eye domes protected.
- Tried on a dummy.
Yes, which matters when volunteers swap in and out all day. Each one leaves sweat in the shared lining and head foam, so both are freshened with a sanitiser for textiles and treated apart from the feathers. What you get back smells neutral rather than of a cover up spray.
- Shared wearers covered.
- No cover up spray.
Yes, together with the body. Wings and feet are washed alongside it, keeping all the browns the same shade. A graduation cap, gown or society banner can be unhooked and costs QAR 30 apiece. Give us the full list in the chat and the owl comes back as one set.
- Matching browns.
- Banners QAR 30 apiece.
Yes, colleges, societies and families. Admissions teams bring a character to open days, student societies to fairs, schools on campus visits, and faculty parents to birthday parties at home. Where one costume passes through many hands in a day, clean it before the next event.
- Open days covered.
- Hall linen via our Qatar University page.
WhatsApp us from campus. Tell us whether we should come to a college office, a hall of residence or a faculty villa, give the event date and attach a picture of the owl in its cap. The cost and a 30 minute collection window follow, any day of the week.
