How We Clean Soft Toys in Umm Birka
Check and Test
Seams, fixings and filling are checked, electronics found and dealt with, and the dye colour-tested on a hidden patch. Anything already loose or likely to stay stained is reported before cleaning starts.
Hand Wash and Sanitise
Washed by hand at low temperature in sections, never in a drum, then sanitised through the filling to deal with dust mites and bacteria rather than just the smell.
Dry, Brush and Check
Air-dried at room temperature until the core of the stuffing is dry, then brushed out along the fur so the pile stands up, and checked over once more before it is packed.

Umm Birka Soft Toy Questions
Everything you need to know about our footwear restoration process in Umm Birka.
Rays are priced by wingspan. One as wide as a tray is QAR 70, a baby ray costs QAR 55, and a wall to wall giant QAR 120. Umm Birka families pay that for the flat rinse, freshening the filling, drying and a brush, and the drive costs nothing.
- No distance charge.
- All rates: the Laundrykhalas price list.
Rays glide home in 2 to 3 days, drive included. Thin wings dry fast but the central body takes longer, so the ray lies flat on a wide rack until its middle is dry. We never use heat, which would crease the wings. Rota at the gas plant? Share your days off.
- Wings dried flat.
- Drive day confirmed ahead.
Yes, it is safe for little ones. The tail, eyes and wing edges are tugged gently before washing. Then the ray is rinsed flat in tepid water with a gentle textile sanitiser and dried until there is no damp left in its body.
- No perfume.
- Tail and edges checked.
Rarely. Glowing manta rays used as night lights keep a battery pack in the centre, which unclips for the wash and clips back afterwards. A sealed light is wrapped in a waterproof pouch. If it may fail, we message you first.
- Glued spots tested.
- Lights kept dry.
Yes, the wings should stay wide and smooth. A drum would fold and crease them, so the ray is rinsed flat by hand. It dries flat as well, and once ready, the plush is brushed from the centre outwards so the wings lie smooth.
- Creased wings only partly recover.
- Honest advice before washing.
Yes, northern dust and coastal salt both settle on plush. Over weeks they reach the soft centre of the ray, and dust mites follow. A textile sanitiser is worked through that centre and the ray dries flat right through, so it goes back fresh inside.
- Good near the coast.
- Pair it with linen from the Umm Birka page.
Book with one WhatsApp message. Send your home or staff housing location, your days off and a photo of the toys. We confirm the price and the day our van comes up, then send a half hour window that morning, with no app needed.
- Message Laundrykhalas.

Al Khor is the closest page, about nine kilometres away. Tinbak and Madinat Al Kaaban are further, and our van reaches each of them for free at the usual rates. If friends nearby have toys too, they can hand them over on the same visit.

"My daughter's bear has been slept with for four years and I was too scared to wash it. It came back clean and still soft, and she did not notice anything different about it, which was the whole point."
via Google "We do this every couple of months now because of my son's asthma. They clean the bedding and his two toys together and the difference in his mornings is obvious."
"Big unicorn plush, about a metre tall. Took three days because of the drying, which they told me upfront, and it came back fluffy instead of the flat mess I got from the washer last time."
via Trustpilot "They found a loose eye on one of the toys and told me instead of sending it back like that. Small thing, but with a toddler in the house it mattered."
"We sent eleven toys from our nursery playroom. Collected on Sunday, back midweek, all labelled and counted correctly. The batch price was fair for the work."
via Website "A singing elephant with the sound box sewn in. I assumed it was not washable. They cleaned around the unit and it still plays, so I was wrong."
"My mother's teddy from the sixties. They said in advance the faded patches would not improve and not to expect white, and that honesty is why I used them again."
