A shirt for Porterhouse, a summer dress for Hong Loong, a suit for a meeting at the resort. Each is priced per piece: a shirt is AED 15, a day dress AED 40, trousers AED 18, suits in two pieces AED 50 and an evening gown AED 65. Clothes are clean but crumpled after the flight in. We press without washing: a hung shirt costs AED 9, trousers AED 12, a dress AED 25. The driver takes them in the morning from Sofitel The Palm and they return smooth, on hangers, inside 24 hours.

Families staying longer in the resort's serviced apartments often travel with their own things: a baby blanket, a favourite beach towel, a bath robe from home. We clean only the guest's personal items, never the hotel's linen. Beach towels cost AED 6 and robes AED 16, returned within a day; allow two days for a big duvet.

Fine sand from the 500 m beach settles into canvas, suede and stitching. Sandals and espadrilles cost AED 45, children's pairs AED 35, and trainers or smart shoes AED 55. Allow 2 to 4 days, which is why it pays to hand them over early in a stay at Sofitel The Palm rather than on the last evening.

A straw tote that sat on a wet lounger, a clutch with a lipstick smear from a night out. To be clear, this is not for hotel rooms. It is for owners and tenants in villas and flats across the Palm who use the same drivers. Each square metre of ordinary carpet is AED 20, wool carpet AED 26. Curtains are priced the same way, AED 20 a square metre, rising to AED 25 with a blackout lining. Expect both back after three days.

The resort hosts weddings, and a gown worn by the sea usually comes back with a grey hem and marks at the neckline. Cleaning costs from AED 250 for a plain gown and from AED 450 for a beaded one; veils are AED 55. The work needs one to two weeks, which is why we can return it to a Dubai address after checkout.

Meant for brand and event teams running family days, launches or kids' shows on the Palm. A large costume is AED 250, a medium AED 230 and a small AED 200, and each accessory, such as a head or gloves, adds AED 30. We clean the lining as well as the fur, deodorise it and dry it slowly; allow three to five days.
