A'ali Is the Only City in Bahrain With No District Near the Sea
Of the ten cities we cover, A'ali is the only one with no district within 2 km of the sea. Its four districts sit between 2.3 km (Jeblat Hebshi) and 5.0 km (A'ali itself) from the coastline, a median of 3.6 km. Only Riffa, at 4.1 km, is further inland on the median.
That takes the edge off one Bahraini laundry problem, salt air. It does not change the other two.
Quick answer: A'ali is the only city in Bahrain with no district within 2 km of the sea, so outdoor washing picks up less salt. Humidity and heat are the same as Manama's: dry outdoors in April, May and October and indoors in January, February and December.
How Far A'Ali's Districts Sit from the Sea
| District | Distance to the sea |
|---|---|
| Jeblat Hebshi | 2.3 km |
| Salmabad | 2.8 km |
| Buri | 4.3 km |
| A'ali | 5.0 km |
On median distance A'ali ranks 9 of 10, from the most coastal city, Muharraq, to the most inland, Riffa. Across all of Bahrain, 99 of 104 districts are within 5 km of the coast, which is why coastal salt is a laundry question almost everywhere on the island.
Less Salt, Same Humidity and Sun
Salt carried on sea breezes falls off with distance, so washing dried outdoors in A'ali picks up less of it than washing dried in Muharraq or Jidhafs. But A'ali sits in the same climate cell as Manama, so humidity and heat are the same: December peaks at 69.5%, and June, July and August are shade-only months.
Moving inland takes the salt out of Bahrain's laundry problem. It leaves the humidity and the sun exactly where they were.
The months that reliably work for a line outside are April, May and October.

Bahrain is small enough that the ERA5 climate model reads the whole island in three cells about 25 km across, so these are cell values, not street-level readings. What This Means in Practice
- April, May and October: dry outdoors, ideally hung early and in before sunset.
- June, July and August: shade only. Direct sun fades colour and dust settles on wet fabric; turn dark garments inside out.
- January, February and December: dry indoors with airflow. Humidity can stop a load drying overnight.
- Salt is a smaller factor: most A'ali districts are more than 2 km from the coast, so humidity and sun decide the day. More in protecting clothes from humidity and salt air.
- Bedding and towels hold moisture longest, so they are the first thing to move indoors in humid months. See how often to wash bedding and towels.
The Short Version
- Distance to the sea: a median 3.6 km across A'ali's 4 districts, from Jeblat Hebshi at 2.3 km to A'ali at 5.0 km.
- Most humid month: December, at 69.5% mean relative humidity.
- Dry outdoors: April, May and October.
- Shade only: June, July and August.
- Avoid: January, February and December.
